+ How much does this service cost?
We provide the platform to primary care physicians at no cost. Alethea bills AH for any electronic consultations and secure emails performed
on the platform, and we utilize a portion of this to help fund distribution of smartphones, endoscopes and product support. We issue payment
directly to referring physicians and specialists on a monthly basis.
+ Do we need to get patient consent?
Verbal consent to take the picture and send the image for referral is all that is required (just like obtaining verbal consent for a traditional referral).
+ Is this platform Health Canada approved?
Yes, our digital otoscope is an approved Class I medical device. The artificial intelligence is currently for educational use only, with a submission
in progress as a Class II Software as a Medical Device (SaMD).
+ Has Alethea submitted a PIA?
Yes, we have a PIA that has been submitted to the OIPC. We can provide our physicians with details pertaining to the amendment
recommended for their clinic PIAs upon enrolment into our platform.
+ Is the Alethea AI database a privacy concern for patients?
No, all images that are collected and stored in our AI database are stripped of any patient data or identifying factors. The CPSA have
approved the use of images in this context.
+ Are eConsults required or optional with your platform?
Physicians can use our platform for the digital endoscope/otoscope, and AI for decision support. If there is a case where you would like some advice, or a request for consultation, that is when the eConsultion feature should be used. With the images our consulting team members are better able to triage consults, can expedite care and facilitate further investigations. We can have a direct conversation around patient care, without the need to wait for a 1-2 year formal in person consult. There is not a required number of eConsults to be sent through the platfrom, as long as there is activity within each 3 month period.
+ We are getting paid to do eConsults - is this a conflict of interest?
There is no conflict of interest to worry about with using the platform. While you are being reimbursed through Alethea Medical, we bill AH on behalf of all our physicians according to AH eReferral billing codes and guidelines. Certainly, there is an additional financial incentive to using the platform, one which AH put in place to represent the value that these types of tools yield for physicians and patients. We manage the billing so that we can provide the hardware for free, and facilitate access to care without creating prohibitive financial barriers for clinics.
+ How do I record eConsults in my EMR?
Alethea provides an eFax integration that allows eConsults to be recieved as faxes, and uplopaded into your patient records. Each time you send an eConsult, and recieve a specialist response, you will recieve a fax copy of the communication.
+ What type of responses can I expect from Alethea's specialists, and how quickly?
Our partnering specialists will respond to your eConsults in 24 hours with their recommendations and treatment advice. In certain cases, Our
specialists’ office may contact your patient directly to schedule an in-person visit.
