Dr. Nathan Thakur is a medical doctor whose focus is in musculoskeletal and regenerative medicine.  He is particularly interested in how research-backed, scientific advances can help humans heal, rejuvenate and preserve their joints and tendons.  His passion extends to educating and clarifying clinicians on which specific diagnoses can the power of regenerative orthobiologics be best utilized.

Previously with the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Thakur now focuses his clinical practice on ultrasound-guided regenerative biologic procedures in musculoskeletal medicine. Ranging from various enhanced and potent platelet rich plasma (PRP) preparations to other novel orthobiologics beyond hyaluronic acid, establishing the appropriate case-use scenarios for regenerative treatments, is important for Dr. Thakur.

Dr. Thakur is a clinical associate professor with the University of Calgary, corporate medical director of Birchcliff Energy, and has also served as medical faculty for Sports Medicine Ultrasound Canada (SMUC), the Canadian Association of Medical Aesthetics (CAMA) and various other educational opportunities around Canada.  In these positions, Dr. Thakur is tasked with messaging specific knowledge in the rapidly evolving field of regenerative medicine to those colleagues who are seeking greater clarity for their own practices.  He owns and operates a unique medical practice: Regenerative MD, with a vision to improve lives by changing the way people understand, experience, and benefit from the rapidly evolving field of orthobiologics.

I can help with:

  • Guidance on when regenerative orthobiologics, such as PRP and other biologic injections, are appropriate for specific musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Management strategies for chronic joint, tendon, and ligament pain unresponsive to conventional treatments.
  • Recommendations on patient selection, timing, and expected outcomes for regenerative and ultrasound-guided interventions.
