Dr. Garnis-Jones earned her specialist designation through a rigorous dermatology residency at McGill University in Montreal, emerging as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in 1986. 

Her expertise extends beyond routine dermatological practice. Driven by a passion for advancing medical knowledge, she actively contributed to groundbreaking clinical trials for novel psoriasis medications. She held directorial roles at the psoriasis clinics of the University of Ottawa and Oakville - Trafalgar Hospital in Oakville, Ontario. 

As a hair loss specialist, Dr. Garnis-Jones identifies the root causes of hair thinning and scalp conditions. At her clinic, she offers personalized treatment plans that include trichoscope scalp analysis, medical therapies, and advanced regenerative treatments. 

In her commitment to melanoma research, Dr. Garnis-Jones led her own laboratory, generously funded by a grant from the Cancer Research Society Inc. Her scholarly pursuits have left a lasting impact, with numerous published research articles and chapters in prominent dermatology textbooks. 

Currently, as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Garnis-Jones imparts her wealth of knowledge. Her academic journey has included professorial roles at the University of Ottawa and McMaster University. 

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Garnis-Jones is dedicated to humanitarian work, contributing her skills and compassion on missions to Rwanda and the Philippines.
